Local media reported people were trapped in buildings in the lightly populated town, while video showed the quake shaking buildings in the Taiwan’s capital Taipei. Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration said the epicentre of the quake was 25km southeast of Hualien.☝full video link☝

A major earthquake has hit the east coast of Taiwan with a magnitude of 7.4, according to data from the US Geological Survey. It is the strongest to hit the island in 25 years, according to a spokesperson from Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration.
